APPLY NOW FOR GRASSROOTS ARTS FUNDING

TIFTON - The Arts Connection at Abraham Baldwin College has received funding to be appropriated to agencies in Tift, Turner, Irwin, Ben Hill, Cook, Berrien, Worth and Wilcox counties through the Grassroots Grant.

The program is meant to benefit arts agencies which can provide quality grassroots arts programming to the entire community, and which need “a boost” to get started. Each agency is given up to three years of Grassroots funds for its project.

The deadline is Sept. 13 for this funding. Agencies in counties within the program area are strongly encouraged to apply.

Those eligible for funding include all cultural, civic, or arts organizations and community arts groups. Applicants must be non-profit and tax-exempt or have a consenting non-profit agent. Applying agencies must also be able to raise matching funds (50 percent of granted amount).

Each agency will have its own project, so 12-15 projects will be going on at the same time. Projects must be focused on the visual or performing arts, able to draw an audience, accessible and available to the entire community, and designed to reach target populations.

The Grassroots funding has been set aside since 1993 by the Georgia General Assembly, and while the Georgia Council for the Arts sets the program guidelines, it is up to local agencies to decide how to put the money to work in the name of the arts.

Call Polly Huff at the ABAC Arts Connection at 391-4818 to obtain an application, or visit the agency’s site at www.abac.edu/arts/gap.
