CHANCELLOR MEETS
WITH SEARCH COMMITTEE

Cummings, Interim Chancellor of the University System of Georgia, charged the
ABAC Presidential Search and Advisory Committee with its responsibilities in a
visit Wednesday to
“I want
the committee to be creative,” Cummings said. “Look throughout the state
and the nation to find the right person.”
Cummings
said the Board of Regents will actually select the new ABAC President but the
committee is charged with the screening process.
“It’s so
important to have this committee at the ground floor level,” Cummings
said. “Their responsibility is to find a person who can fit in with the
campus and the community and move the institution forward.”
Cummings
said the new president will move into a great situation at ABAC.
“There
are some really great people here,” Cummings said. “I always get a
wonderful feeling when I come here. It’s that family atmosphere.”
The ABAC
committee is expected to complete its work in time for the Regents to name a
new president in April. The new president will replace Mike Vollmer, who
stepped down on Sept. 14, 2004 to become the Commissioner of the Department of
Adult and Technical Education. Tom Call has served as interim president since
that time.
