CHANCELLOR MEETS WITH SEARCH COMMITTEE

TIFTON--Corlis Cummings, Interim Chancellor of the University System of Georgia, charged the ABAC Presidential Search and Advisory Committee with its responsibilities in a visit Wednesday to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

“I want the committee to be creative,” Cummings said.  “Look throughout the state and the nation to find the right person.”

Cummings said the Board of Regents will actually select the new ABAC President but the committee is charged with the screening process.

“It’s so important to have this committee at the ground floor level,” Cummings said.  “Their responsibility is to find a person who can fit in with the campus and the community and move the institution forward.”

Cummings said the new president will move into a great situation at ABAC.

“There are some really great people here,” Cummings said.  “I always get a wonderful feeling when I come here.  It’s that family atmosphere.”

The ABAC committee is expected to complete its work in time for the Regents to name a new president in April. The new president will replace Mike Vollmer, who stepped down on Sept. 14, 2004 to become the Commissioner of the Department of Adult and Technical Education. Tom Call has served as interim president since that time.

ABAC Foundation Chair William I. Bowen, Jr., chairs the committee.  Members include Keith Perry, Dr. Renata Elad, JoAnn Brannen, Mike Curry, Olga Contreras-Martinez, Ellis Washington, III, Sonya Martin Aldridge, and Ray Cross.
