EIGHTEEN GRADUATE FROM 203rd ABAC POLICE ACADEMY

TIFTON—Eighteen individuals from the South Georgia area recently received certificates at graduation exercises for the 203rd Session of the South Georgia Police Academy Basic Mandate Class at Abraham Baldwin College.

Academy Director Ray Saxon said that Anthony D. Franklin of the Camilla Police Department was the recipient of the Overall Achievement Award and finished second in Firearms. Nicholas J. Godwin of the Bainbridge Department of Public Safety earned first place in Academic Achievement and Firearms. Second place in Academic Achievement went to Susan M. Vaughn of the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicle Services.

The president of the 203rd session was April J. Whaley of Tifton, sponsored by the South Georgia Police Academy.

Other graduates included Sandy A. Bennefield of Pearson, sponsored by the South Georgia Police Academy; Randall C. Rhymes of the Pearson Police Department; Patrick N. Gilbert of Covington, sponsored by the South Georgia Police Academy; Kevin A. Heath of the Pelham Police Department; Roy A. Jones of Fitzgerald, sponsored by the South Georgia Police Academy; and Joshua D. Luke of Naylor, sponsored by the South Georgia Police Academy.

Other graduates were Jerry M. Mobley of the Camilla Police Department; Scott W. Nelson of the Americus Police Department; Wesley B. Stanfield of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office; Tamika S. Scott of the Moultrie Police Department; James H. Brown, II of Moultrie, sponsored by the South Georgia Police Academy; David A. Scruggs of the Quitman Police Department; Andrew M. Smith of Grayson, sponsored by the South Georgia Police Academy; and Shannon K. Yawn of Milan, sponsored by the South Georgia Police Academy.  

The South Georgia Police Academy regularly holds multi-week intensive training sessions designed to acquaint officers with state-of-the-art law enforcement techniques. The Academy operates in cooperation with the Division of Social Science at ABAC.
