SNELLVILLE RESIDENT SELECTED AS MS. ABAC 2006

TIFTON—Melissa (Missy) Maher of Snellville was selected as Ms. ABAC 2006 at the 37th annual Ms. ABAC event at Abraham Baldwin College. Sixty-one ABAC students participated in the pageant, which was sponsored by the Interactivities Council (IAC), the Student Government Association (SGA), and the Campus Activities Board (CAB).

Contestants were sponsored by campus groups, including clubs, residence halls, athletic teams, and student media. Maher was sponsored by the ABAC Rodeo Team.

Maher, an animal science major, is the daughter of Phil and Kathy Maher. She is a graduate of South Gwinnett High School. At ABAC, she is Rodeo Club president and member, and is involved in FFA, a volunteer at AET tractor pulls, participated in the Student Government Association Leadership Conference, an active member of the Rowdies and RaCooner’s Club, and an ABAC farm employee.

Jones said, “I was very excited about winning the title. I think my parents were more nervous than I was. For me, the waiting was the hardest part . . . waiting for the outcome.”

Ms. ABAC 2005, Jessica Jones, crowned Maher. First runner-up was Hailey Duke of Moultrie; second runner-up was Megan Brannen of Statesboro; third runner-up was Meredith Carey of Royston; and fourth runner-up was Anna Daniel from Jackson.
