AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY AWARDS $7,250
GRANT TO ABAC
TIFTON—The American Cancer
Society (ACS) has awarded Abraham Baldwin College a $7,250 grant that will be
used to assist in the funding of the first ever Hispanic Health Fair.
Troy Spicer, Assistant Professor in
the Division of Nursing at ABAC, found out about the funds focusing on
community initiatives and proceeded to write the proposal and submit it to the
ACS.
Spicer said, “There has always
been a healthcare component at Fiesta Del Pueblo, but this is the first time
that there has been an event geared to Hispanic healthcare.”
All funding will go to the
Hispanic Health Fair, which will focus on the issue of cancer in the Hispanic
community of Tifton. Participants at the fair will have the opportunity to
learn about cancer prevention techniques and be screened for cancer.
The Hispanic Health Fair will take place on July 16 from 9 a.m. – noon at
the American Legion Fairgrounds.
