PIANIST AT STAFFORD SERIES NOVEMBER 15

TIFTON - The Stafford Steinway Series will showcase former Shorter College professor and pianist William Knight as the featured soloist on Nov. 15 on the campus of Abraham Baldwin College.

The Stafford Series Concert will be held at Howard Auditorium at 7 p.m. This event is open to the community at no charge.

Knight was a Distinguished Professor of Piano at Shorter College. He retired in 2004 after 41 years of service to the institution.  While teaching at Shorter College, his students have been awarded prizes at the state, national, and international levels. He and his wife Mary Ann, who also teaches piano at Shorter College, are in demand as adjudicators and for workshops and master classes.

Knight holds degrees from Louisiana State University and Oberlin Conservatory, where he was awarded the Hurlbutt Prize for outstanding performing ability. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in 1964 and has had a 55 - year concert career. The William D. Knight Scholarship Competition has been established to honor his contributions in music and education, at Shorter College and in the community.

The Stafford Family, through the Stafford Foundation, donated a Steinway piano in March of 2004 as an addition to Howard Auditorium’s renovation. The Steinway given to the college is a 150th Anniversary Edition nine-foot D.
