ABAC FALL
PICNIC AND CONCERT OCTOBER 13
TIFTON - The Annual Fall Picnic and Concert at
Sponsored by the ABAC Music Department, Music
Educators National Conference (MENC), Sodexho Food
Services and the Campus Activities Board (CAB), the picnic will be held at the gazebo
located on the grounds of the new
Sodexho Food Services is once again providing barbeque
style foods, baked beans, corn on the cob, potato salad, cookies, and tea and
lemonade at the cost of $5. ABAC students with a Gold or Silver meal plan will
be allowed to use their plan with no additional charge.
Door prizes and complimentary chair massages
will be furnished by CAB. Brandon Berger, an ABAC art student, will be drawing
caricatures during the performance.
The Concert Band will perform
a variety of contrasting selections from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s famous
Broadway musical “South Pacific.”
Highlights from the famous musical will feature the following
selections: Some Enchanted Evening, A Wonderful Guy,
Karl L. King’s march, “The Trombone King”,
Caesar Giovanni’s Capriccio of “Chorale
and Capriccio” and James Curnow’s “Fanfare and Flourishes” will complete the
concert.
“Overall, this performance will give the
public a taste of our November concert,” said Eugene Wyles,
Concert Band Director.
The ABAC Jazz Choir,
directed by Dr. Susan Roe, will present several well-known pieces. The group
will present a medley of Lorenz Hart and Kirby Shaw arrangements including Falling In Love, This
Can’t be Love, My Funny Valentine and With
A Song In My Heart.
The audience will also enjoy the old favorite, When I Fall In Love,
and the swing classic It Don’t Mean A
Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing!
The ABAC Jazz
Ensemble, under the direction of Donald Coates, will perform sounds of swing,
blues, and even a Latin samba. Performance pieces will include Blue Note, a composition that features
Evan Zebley on tenor sax and Barry Coffee on trumpet.
Nica’s Dream by Horace Silver will feature the
rhythm section of the ensemble and Wyles on alto sax.
