                 TWENTY-SIX GRADUATE FROM 195TH ABAC POLICE ACADEMY

TIFTON—Twenty-six individuals from the South Georgia area recently received certificates at graduation exercises for the 195th Session of the South Georgia Police Academy Basic Mandate Class at Abraham Baldwin College.

Academy Director Ray Saxon said that Chris A. Schaper of the Valdosta Police Department received the Overall Achievement Award for the 195th session. The Academic Achievement award went to Alicia J. Martin of the Dougherty County Judicial Circuit, who also served as president of the 195th session. The second place award for academics went to Julie D. Wood of the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office. Wood also won the first place award for Firearms. Schaper received second place honors.

Chief Don Cheek of the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office was the guest speaker at the graduation ceremony.

Other Police Academy graduates included Carl E. Boyett of the Albany Police Department; Kisha D. Burwell of the Americus Police Department; Edward M. Connell of the Camilla Police Department; Rodney M. Courson of the Douglas Police Department; Herbert L. Denton of the Albany Police Department; Robert B. Dickie from the Albany Police Department; Matthew T. Gary of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office; and Tyler A. Greene of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.  

Other graduates included Tyrone T. Griffin of the Albany Police Department; Timothy A. Harvey of the Albany Police Department; Terrance A. Haywood of the Meigs Police Department; Anthony W. Hughes of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office; Keith Jackson of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office; Bryan W. Miller of the Douglas Police Department; Daniel R. Pieper of the Camilla Police Department; and Daniel R. Powers of the Thomasville Police Department.

Other graduates of the Police Academy were Anthony J. Showell of the Thomasville Police Department; Darrell E. Tannehill of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department; Carla M. Watson from the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office; William C. West, III of the Meigs Police Department; Thomas A. Wilbanks of the Pearson Police Department; Makeba L. Wright of the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office; and Frederick D. Zigan of the Albany Police Department.

The South Georgia Police Academy regularly holds multi-week intensive training sessions designed to acquaint officers with state-of-the-art law enforcement techniques. The Academy operates in cooperation with the Division of Social Science at ABAC.
