ABAC FALL BAND AND CHOIR CONCERT NOVEMBER 18

 

TIFTON- The ABAC Concert Choir, a 40-voice ensemble directed by Associate Professor of Music Wane Jones will perform a variety of choral music on the campus of Abraham Baldwin College on Nov. 18 at Howard Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. This concert is free and open to the public.

The choir will open with the anthem "Daemon Irrepit Callidus” by the Hungarian composer Gyorgy Orban. This will be followed by “Salmo 150” by Brazilian composer Ernani Aguiar.  Next the choir will feature two choral numbers from Morten Lauridsen’s Les Chansons des Roses, “Dirait-on and La Rose Compléte.” The choir will end its portion of the program with three spirituals arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw: “Fix Me Jesus,”  “I Will Arise,” and “Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal.”

            The ABAC Concert Band under the direction of Eugene Wyles will also be featured in the concert with selections from musicals and overtures. The band is made up of students from all over Florida and Georgia.  Their program will begin with the “William Tell Overture,” from Rossini’s famous opera by the same name. Following this selection the band will perform Frank Erikson’s “Toccata for Band.”  The next selections performed will be “Noble Men,” a march by the well-known James Henry Fillmore, and “The Music Man,” from Meredith Wilson’s famous Broadway musical.  The program will end with “Overture to Candide,” a musical by Leonard Bernstien.
