ABAC FALL PICNIC AND CONCERT OCTOBER 13
TIFTON- The annual Fall Picnic and
Concert sponsored by the Abraham Baldwin College Music Department, Music
Educators National Conference (MENC), ARAMARK Food Services, and the Campus
Activity Board (CAB) will be held Oct. 13 at the
The picnic and concert are open to the public as well as ABAC students, faculty and staff. This fall’s show promises to provide great food and entertainment for everyone. ARAMARK Food Services is providing barbeque style foods, baked beans, corn on the cob, potato salad, cookies, and beverages of tea and lemonade at a $5 per person cost.
Branden Berger, a member of the Arts Student League, will be on hand to do caricatures of anyone in attendance.
ABAC students with a Gold or Silver meal plan will be allowed to eat off their meal plan with no additional charge. Door prizes will be furnished by CAB. In case of rain, the event will be held in the Donaldson Dining Hall.
The Concert Band, directed by Gene Wyles, will play a variety of selections from “The Music Man,” and Henry Fillmore’s famous march, “Noble Men.” They will include “The Wells Fargo Wagon,” “Till There Was You,” and “Seventy Six Trombones.”
The ABAC Jazz Choir, directed by Wayne Jones, will present several selections that are well known in today’s culture as spellbinding tunes. Bart Howard and Kirby Shaw’s arrangement of “Fly Me to the Moon” will be performed, as well as an arrangement of another swing classic, “This Can’t Be Love.”

ABAC Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Don Coates, will play sounds of
swing, blues, and even a Latin Samba. Performance pieces will include “Cruisin”
by Lennie Niehaus, “Blues for C.J.” by Bob Meyer, and “The Girl from Ipanema” with
feature soloist Evan Zebley, a music major from
The next selection for the ensemble will be a piece from the big band era “Jersey Bounce.” The Jazz Ensemble will also perform Les Sabina’s “Brazil Nuts” to add variety with its Latin-Samba. Featured soloists in the ABAC Jazz Ensemble are Gail Wyles, piano; Zebley, tenor saxophone; Derrick Dove, guitar; Nguyen Ly, alto saxophone; and Wyles, alto saxophone.
ABAC’s
Music Department has made plans for other upcoming musical events. The Jazz
Choir and Jazz Ensemble will perform at the annual Sunbelt Agricultural
Exposition in
