SAXON SELECTED AS DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS AT ABAC

TIFTON--Beth Saxon has been selected as the Director of Admissions at Abraham Baldwin College, effective immediately. She will also remain in her current position as Registrar of the college.

Saxon holds a M.Ed. degree in Secondary Education--Mathematics from Valdosta State College and a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Georgia State University.

Saxon joined the ABAC faculty in 1992 as a part-time instructor of mathematics in the Division of Science and Mathematics. In 1993, that position became full time. Saxon became an assistant professor of mathematics in 1996. She became the Interim Chair in the Division of Developmental Studies in 1997 and remained in that position until 1999 when she became the Director of the Learning Support Program.

Saxon also served as the Director of the Academic Intervention Management (AIM) Program from 1996 until she accepted the position as Interim Registrar in 2001. Saxon was named Registrar in 2003. Before coming to ABAC, Saxon served as a public school mathematics teacher for 13 years.

“The staff of the former registrar and admissions offices was cross-trained, which was beneficial for the new position,” Saxon said. “My duties will lie more with admissions policies than any other aspect of the job. The Registrar’s position will continue to provide new experiences every day, but because I have this experience, there should be no surprises.”

Combining the duties is not a new concept at ABAC. Former admissions director Garth Webb served for a time as registrar and admissions director during the presidency of Dr. Wayne Curtis in the mid-80s.  Saxon replaces Angie Palmer, who left ABAC to become the chief operating officer of Health Systems Management in Tifton.

Tom Call, ABAC’s Vice President of Student and Enrollment Services, said he’s looking forward to continuing to work with Saxon in this position.  “She has an excellent knowledge of ABAC’s academic policies and procedures, and she has a strong commitment to providing the best possible student services,” Call said.

Call said the college will hire a Director of Student Recruitment to handle all aspects of new student recruitment, duties formerly handled by the Director of Admissions.
