ABAC PRESIDENT PATROLS WITH PUBLIC SAFETY

In an effort to learn more about the duties and responsibilities of the Office of Public Safety on the Abraham Baldwin College campus, ABAC President Mike Vollmer recently spent an evening walking the campus with the Public Safety officers.

During Vollmer’s shift, which lasted from 10 p.m. – 2:30 a.m., he accompanied the officers on their rounds and participated in activities to ensure campus security, such as checking the buildings, driving around campus, and taking a walk through the residence halls.

“I really enjoyed this experience, and I found it very enlightening,” Vollmer said. “ABAC’s Public Safety Officers have the especially difficult job of protecting all of the buildings on campus as well as over 800 people. They consider safety and security issues at all times. I was impressed by the responsibilities they have and the manner in which they perform their duties.”

Bryan Golden, ABAC’s Director of Public Safety, said he and his officers really appreciated the fact that Vollmer gave up his free time to spend with the officers.

“It really meant a lot to the entire Department of Public Safety that President Vollmer wanted to play an active role in what we do around campus after hours,” Golden said. “Not many college presidents would do something like that.”
