UNIVERSITY SYSTEM APPROVES TENURE FOR ABAC FACULTY

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia recently approved the tenure of six faculty members at Abraham Baldwin College effective Aug. 1, 2003. Those receiving tenure are Donna Campbell, Geoff Clement, Dr. John Galyean, Dr. Malcolm Rainey, Alice (Kitty) Ray, and Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Thornton.

            Campbell, assistant professor of heath and physical education, has been a faculty member at ABAC since 1995. She received her M.S., B.S., and A.A. degrees in Health Education, all from Georgia State College. She is the women’s softball coach.

Clement, assistant professor of mathematics, has been an ABAC faculty member since 1995. He earned his M.Ed. in Math Education from Georgia State University and his B.S. in Mathematics from Emory University.  

Galyean, assistant professor of speech/theatre, began teaching in ABAC’s Division of Humanities in 1998. He earned his Ph.D. and his M.A. degree in Drama/Theatre Arts from Bowling Green State University.

Rainey, assistant professor of animal science, has been a faculty member at ABAC since 1998. He holds a Ph.D. in Physiology from Mississippi State University, an M.A. degree in Animal Sciences from West Texas State University, and a B.S. degree in Animal Science from Southeastern Louisiana University.

Ray, assistant professor of nursing, received her M.S.N. in Nursing from Albany State University, her B.S.N. in nursing from Georgia Southwestern University, and her A.S. degree in Nursing from ABAC. Ray has taught at ABAC since 1993.

Thornton, assistant professor of biology, has taught in ABAC’s Division of Science and Mathematics since 1995. She holds an M.Ed. in Science Education and a B.S. degree in Zoology, both from the University of Georgia.

Tenure may be granted to a faculty member who has served at least five years as an assistant professor and has shown the potential for making significant contributions to the college and in the professor's field. Tenure also recognizes the professor as a permanent member of the college faculty.
