PAIRINGS SET FOR GJCAA STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

 

Georgia Perimeter College and Middle Georgia College top the men’s and women’s seedings for the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association state basketball tournament which will begin on Wednesday at Gressette Gymnasium on the campus of Abraham Baldwin College.

Four men’s games will be played on Wednesday beginning at 2 p.m. when fourth seeded Atlanta Metro takes on fifth seeded South Georgia Tech. Third seeded Truett McConnell meets sixth seeded Andrew at 4 p.m. followed by number one seeded Georgia Perimeter against eighth seeded Coastal Georgia at 6 p.m.

The Golden Stallions of ABAC, seeded seventh, will get their first taste of tournament action at 8 p.m. against archrival Middle Georgia, the second seed in the tournament. The Warriors defeated Coach Robert Moore’s Stallions twice during the regular season by scores of 87-84 and 87-58.  ABAC carries a 10-19 overall record into the tourney.

Four women’s games are on tap for Thursday with fourth seeded Atlanta Metro matching up with fifth seeded Darton at 2 p.m. followed by second seeded Georgia Perimeter against seventh seeded Andrew at 4 p.m. Top seeded Middle Georgia plays eighth seeded Truett McConnell at 6 p.m.

Seeded third in the women’s bracket, the Golden Fillies of ABAC will take their 20-6 overall record into an 8 p.m. contest against sixth seeded Atlanta Tech. Coach Julie Conner’s team knocked off Atlanta Tech twice during the regular season by scores of 79-66 and 79-70.

            Absent since giving birth to her second child on Feb. 22, Conner is expected to be back on the ABAC bench for the tournament. Assistant Coach Jamie Childs has guided the team to three victories.

Women’s semifinal games will be held Friday at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Men’s semifinal games will be held Friday at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. The women’s title game is set for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, and the men’s championship will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Admission is $6 per day with no re-entry or $20 for a tournament pass which allows unlimited re-entry during the four days of the tournament.
