FIRST TUESDAY SERIES BEGINS AT ABAC SEPTEMBER 2

The First Tuesday Performance Series will begin its second season at Abraham Baldwin College on Sept. 2. The series, which debuted last year, will once again feature regional professional artists in concert in the Chapel of All Faiths on the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m.

Individual tickets for the performances may be purchased at the door. The cost is $3 for adults and $1 for students. ABAC students are admitted free with student ID.

ABAC encourages everyone to take advantage of these one-hour performances offered each month. For additional information about the First Tuesday Concert Series, contact Dr. Susan Roe, First Tuesday Program Coordinator, at (229) 386-3097.

The first of this year’s seven concerts will be held Sept. 2 and will feature the ABAC music faculty. Dr. Leroy Bynum, choral and opera director of Albany State University, and Dr. Claire Fox Hilliard, violinist and director of the Albany Symphony, will perform on Oct. 7, accompanied by Mari Beth Hilliard. On Nov. 4, Tifton’s own Susan Jackson will be featured, along with the Mannheim Trio and members of the United States Air Force Reserve Band from Robins Air Force Base, including A1C Thomas Salyers, trumpet, and A1C Michael Pekarek, horn.

After the holidays, the series will resume with Tift County music teachers as the featured soloists on Jan.13.  Performers will include Stephen and Jacque Greene, Chris Robinson, Zoe Hobby, Randy Barber, Bonnie Nipper, and Gina Lawhon. On Feb. 3, area church musicians, Stan Smith, Ron Lawhon, Brian Marchant, Blane Jacobs, and Gina Lawhon will perform.

Last year’s jazz night was so successful that the public, students, and ABAC faculty   have requested a repeat performance of Marlene Bowen and Vann Thornton in an evening of jazz. This concert will take place on March 2 and is made possible through the generous support of the Stafford Fine Arts Series.

The final concert of the series on April 6 will feature instrumental ensembles: the ABAC Brass, Saxophone Quartet, Clarinet Choir, Jazz Choir, and solo artists Lesli Holton and Sheri and Robert Grabowski.

Season subscriptions to the ABAC Arts Connection Arts and Entertainment Series include all seven First Tuesday Series performances as bonus events. The cost for season tickets is $50 for adults and $15 for students 18 years old and under. These tickets include all six events in the Arts and Entertainment Series. The first performance by the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre is Oct. 30. To purchase tickets to all of this season’s events, contact the Abraham Baldwin Arts Connection Office at (229) 386-3558.
