FIRST TUESDAY SERIES PERFORMANCE JANUARY 14 AT ABAC

The next event in the First Tuesday Performance Series will take place Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. at Abraham Baldwin College. As part of the Arts and Entertainment Series sponsored by the Abraham Baldwin Arts Connection, regional professional artists will be featured on the first Tuesday of every month in the Chapel of All Faiths on the ABAC campus. The series is made possible by a generous gift from Lowe’s of Tifton for the Arts and Entertainment Series.

Individual tickets for the performance may be purchased at the door. The cost is $3 for adults and $1 for students. ABAC students are admitted free with ID. Patrons of the Arts and Entertainment Series can also attend at no charge. For additional information, contact Arts Connection Director Wayne Jones at (229) 386-3558.

The fourth concert in the series will feature performers who are music teachers in the area and who also perform regionally. The performers include Jacqueline Greene, piano; Stephen Greene, tenor; Gina Lawhon, piano; Leli Bellflower Holton, mezzo-soprano; and Chris Robinson, tenor.

Jacqueline Greene graduated from Shorter College in 1996 with a Bachelor of Music Education/Piano degree. While attending Shorter, she earned several awards in piano competitions. She also earned a Bachelor of Music Therapy degree from Georgia State University in 1998. She teaches general music at G. O. Bailey and Len Lastinger primary schools in Tifton.

            Stephen Greene attended Shorter College where he earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree. While attending Shorter, he was awarded the Student Teacher of the Year Award. After graduating in 1996, he attended Florida State University where he earned a Master of Music Education degree. Stephen teaches band, chorus, and general music at Omega and Charles Spencer elementary schools.

            Lawhon attended Oklahoma Baptist University and graduated with a Music Education degree from North Texas State University. She has accompanied and played for a wide variety of musical events both local and statewide, including a concert with the Brandenburg String Quartet and several recitals at Valdosta State University. Lawhon has two recordings: “Praise His Greatness,” a sacred collection, and “Christmas Favorites,” a Christmas collection. She is a local

piano/organ instructor in Tifton and a music teacher at Irwin County Elementary School. 

Holton earned an Associate of Arts degree in Music from ABAC. She also earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and a Master of Music Education degree, both from Valdosta State University. Holton currently serves as Associate Conductor of the Tifton Choral Society and is the director of the Young Musicians Choir at First Baptist Church of Chula. She is the Director of Choral Music for Worth County Middle School.

            Robinson attended Shorter College where he earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree. While attending Shorter, he performed in the New York premiere of Les Chanson des Roses with the Shorter Chorale and toured Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Austria. He has also toured Germany with the Shorter Handbell Choir. Robinson has been teaching in Tift County for seven years.
