ABAC OFFERS CONVENIENT FOUR-YEAR DEGREE PROGRAMS
Due
to the increasing demand for four-year degree programs at Abraham Baldwin College,
five colleges and universities have developed partnerships with ABAC and have started
programs in Tifton. These programs
provide an opportunity for students to obtain a four-year degree without having
to relocate and are especially convenient for students who have family and/or
work obligations.
The University of Georgia (UGA) began offering
a four-year degree in Agriscience and Environmental Systems (AES) during the
Fall of 2003. UGA will also begin offering a degree in Agriculture Education in
the Spring of 2004.
Georgia Southwestern offers undergraduate
degrees in accounting and management.
Dr. Gail Dillard, ABAC’s Director of Evening and Off-Campus Programs, said the four-year degrees offered at ABAC provide students with knowledge and skills in high-demand employment areas.
“Both the early childhood education and information technology degree programs address workforce shortages in critical fields,” Dillard said. “And there is always a strong demand for people with business and agriculture degrees.
“Classes are offered in the evenings or on-line for the convenience of adults who work full time. But even though the programs are designed to make it possible for adults who work full time to earn a bachelor’s degree, a number of traditional-age students enroll in the programs as well because they enjoy the small-town atmosphere of Tifton, or they do not want to incur expenses associated with attending college at a distant location.”
ABAC President Mike Vollmer said the college is excited about the opportunities four-year degree programs provide for students.
“The addition of such programs on our campus
through partnerships with four-year institutions will enable our region to have
the talent necessary to attract companies that need a highly trained workforce,”
Vollmer said.

degree programs, contact Dillard at (229) 386-7154, or e-mail her at gdillard@abac.edu.
