Tom Call has been selected as the Vice President for Student and Enrollment Services at Abraham Baldwin College, effective immediately. He has served in that position on an interim basis for the past 14 months.

Call holds an M.S. degree in agronomy and a B.S. degree in agronomy/plant pathology. He received both degrees from the University of Georgia.

Call, who has been at ABAC for 22 years, has been an instructor of crop science, an assistant professor of crop science, and an associate professor of agronomy. He has also served as Interim Chair in the Division of Agriculture and Forest Resources, Interim Registrar, Registrar, and most recently, Interim Vice President of Student and Enrollment Services.

Call said he feels honored and fortunate to be selected for this position and to have the opportunity to work with ABAC students.

“While serving as the Interim Vice President of Student and Enrollment Services, I've been able to get a feel for what is required for this position,” Call said. “I really enjoy working with students, and since ABAC is a student-centered institution, this position gives me an excellent opportunity to make a difference in our students’ experiences here.”

ABAC President Mike Vollmer said the college is very proud of what Call has accomplished over the past year as an Interim Vice President and looks forward to working with him in the coming year.

“As the old saying goes, ‘Tom got the job the old fashioned way—he earned it,’” Vollmer said.

One of Call’s primary goals is to ensure that all of the offices in the area--Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Housing and Residence Life, Student Development (personal and career counseling, testing, and job placement), and Learning Support/AAC (Academic Assistance Center)--provide the best possible services for students.

“We have a growing student population at the Moultrie Center, and delivering adequate student services there without detracting from our main campus services will be challenging,” Call said. “Student Services and technology go hand-in-hand, so we will be working in conjunction with our Office of Information Technology and Services to keep us up-to-date in online services.

“Like many other areas of higher education, Student Services is continually evolving. Our student body is changing, and all areas of Student and Enrollment Services must be adaptable in order to meet students’ changing needs. We are continually evaluating all of our services in an effort to keep the best product possible in front of the students. The One Stop Shop is probably the most visible recent change. Also, we recently started the Adult College Entry Program (ACE), a new program designed to recruit and assist non-traditional students. The entire institution is evolving in a positive manner, and I'm excited to be a small part of the changes taking place.”
