BALDWIN PLAYERS’ AUDITIONS JANUARY 21 - 22 AT ABAC

The Baldwin Players of Abraham Baldwin College will hold auditions for the spring semester production of Quazimodo! by David Koren on Jan. 21 - 22 at 7 p.m. in Room 319 in Conger Hall on the ABAC campus.

Auditions are open to ABAC faculty, staff, and students as well as everyone in the Tiftarea. No previous experience in theatre is necessary. The one-act play will be presented Feb. 27 – March 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 319 in Conger Hall.

The production is to be staged as a readers theatre, a form in which symbolic movement and metaphorical images contribute. The actors, or “readers,” sit on stools holding bound copies of the script, sometimes portraying multiple roles.

Dr. John Galyean, ABAC’s Director of Theatre and the Baldwin Players, said he plans to stage a more liberal form of readers theatre called chamber theatre.

“In chamber theatre, readers hold the book (script), but they also move about--dancing, singing, and chanting,” Galyean said. “Great interpretive liberties are taken, and I believe the result is more entertaining. The chamber theatre I have seen is just as artistically satisfying as traditionally-staged theatre. It challenges the audience to project more of their imagination into the proceedings, much like a combination of theatre and radio drama.”
