MR. ABAC TO BE CHOSEN MARCH 14

           Twenty-four men attending Abraham Baldwin College will compete for the title of Mr. ABAC in the 12th annual competition on March 14. The theme for this year's event is "Stallions Gone Hawaiian." Sponsored, produced, and directed by the Family and Consumer Sciences Club at the college, the event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Donaldson Dining Hall. The cost is $2 for ABAC students and $3 for general admission.

           Contestants are sponsored by campus clubs, athletic teams, residence halls, and student media. They will compete in casual attire, formal attire, and interview categories. A timed essay component will also be added this year. The top contestant will receive a plaque. A contestant's award will also be given. The recipient of this award is chosen by the other contestants. The Family and Consumer Sciences Club members will choose "Mr. Photogenic," "Best Eyes," "Best Smile," and other awards.

           Tonya Kilpatrick from WALB-TV's Business Spotlight and her daughter Hayley, who is Junior Miss Albany, will emcee the event. Entertainment will be provided by the ABAC Jazz Choir and the ABAC dance group Sabor Latino. Family and Consumer Sciences Club President Jennifer Peters will present the award to Mr. ABAC 2002. Last year's winner was Derek Wheeler.

           Students involved in this year's competition include Angel Aguilar, a fashion design major from Naples, Fla.; Michael Baskett, a landscape design major from Commerce; Joshua Bennett, a secondary education major from Homerville; D. J. Bradshaw, an animal science major from Clayton; David C. Brady, a wildlife technology/agricultural engineering technology major from Thomasville; Micheal Crawley, a wildlife management major/criminal justice major from Appling; George Farmer, an agricultural engineering technology major from Tallahassee, Fla.; Graham Floyd, an agriculture major from Conyers; Harold Glover, Jr., an animal science/agriculture major from Pelham; Patrick H. Greene, an agriculture education major from Martin; Eustace Griffin, an animal science/pre-veterinary major from Hoboken; and Nathan Johnson, a journalism major from Tifton.           

           Also competing are Brett Marshall, a history education major from Unadilla; Richard "Lee" McKellar, a secondary education/biology major from Tifton; Joel McKie, an agriculture-business major from Abbeville; John Mitchell, a pre-law/political science major from Ty Ty; Carlos Ernesto Montenegro, Jr., a marine biology major from Asheboro, N.C.; Edward Palmer, an environmental horticulture/golf turf management major from Calhoun; Jonathan Shurburtt, an environmental horticulture/landscape design major from Spartanburg, S.C.; Jermaine Ezekiel Spence, a psychology major from Albany; Brett Tucker, an agricultural engineering major from Ocilla; Michael Westbrook, a wildlife management/forestry major from Norcross; Alan Winkler, an animal science/herd health major from Chatsworth; and Josh Zeigler, a forestry major from Madison.
