Andrea Willis, Associate Professor of Health and Physical Education, has been named Division Chair of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER), and Alan Kramer, Assistant Professor of Physical Education and the Men's Tennis Coach, has been named Athletics Director at Abraham Baldwin College.
Willis, who has been at ABAC for 28 years, received a Master's in Science for Teachers degree and a B.S. degree in Education, both from Georgia Southern University. She also received an A. S. degree from Brunswick Junior College. All of her degrees are in health and physical education. Willis served as the Interim Division Chair last year.
As Division Chair, Willis is in charge of all academic programs for the HPER Division. This includes providing daily leadership and direction to division faculty and staff, as well as leadership in long-range planning, supervising instruction, curriculum, program, and course development; coordinating and scheduling courses and classes and the use of materials and equipment in those courses/classes; and evaluating instructional and staff performance.
"The division has developed a new mission statement and a direction that will enhance the educational opportunities of the students at ABAC," Willis said. "There's a positive atmosphere that exudes excellence. It's an exciting time at ABAC, and I'm thrilled to be in a division with an excellent faculty and staff who are dedicated to their professions and to ABAC."
Kramer, who has been at ABAC for nine years, received an M.S. degree in Education from Baylor University and a B.S. degree in Exercise Science from Truman State University. Kramer had been serving for a year as interim athletics director.
As Athletics Director, Kramer's responsibilities include the following: supervising all athletics programs through each coach; reviewing and approving athletics budgets, travel requests, and purchase orders by athletics staff; calling and conducting athletics meetings; disbursing scholarship funds to coaches and assisting each coach with his/her scholarship budget; signing eligibility forms and verifying eligibility; supervising
ticket sales and assisting in the employment of officials for athletic events; maintaining records of scholarship agreements, purchase orders, expense reports, and financial aid recipients in all sports; attending all eligibility meetings of Region XVII of the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association, maintaining current institutional memberships; and communicating all athletics program concerns and requests to the President.
"The goals that I have are not impacted by the name change from Interim Athletics Director to Athletics Director," Kramer said. "The goals I have, however, will continue to be geared toward expanding upon the existing athletics traditions we have successfully established over many years. Private fund raising and athletics marketing/promotion will be improved upon with the help of the faculty and staff in the HPER Division. Also, I will face the challenge of balancing teaching responsibilities and my duties as the tennis coach of the number one ranked tennis team in the country."
