HARRINGTON SELECTED AS COORDINATOR OF JOB PLACEMENT AT ABAC

Dr. Jonathan Harrington, former Assistant Director for Student Life and Housing at Abraham Baldwin College, has been selected as the Coordinator of Job Placement at ABAC. He will begin his new duties immediately.

A native of Savannah, Tenn., Harrington holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education/Educational Leadership and an M.A. degree in Higher Education/Student Personnel, both from the University of Mississippi at Oxford, and a B.S.W. degree in Social Work from Middle Tennessee State University.

Harrington, who has been a member of the ABAC staff for three years, said he is looking forward to his new position.

"I enjoy one-on-one interactions with students and assisting them in any way that I can," Harrington said. "Most students need employment to help them finance their education, and I feel as if I can play an important role in assisting them and helping them remain in school. In addition, I look forward to working with and getting to know community business owners and corporate leaders and encouraging them to recruit our students for positions in the workforce."

As the Coordinator of Job Placement at ABAC, Harrington's primary responsibilities will consist of working with and assisting students. This includes meeting with students on a daily basis, helping them develop effective resumes and cover letters, assisting them in preparing for interviews, advising student clubs and organizations, and presenting topics relevant to job placement and student development to both students and the community.

In addition, Harrington will also build and develop relationships with corporate entities within the region, handle the day-to-day operations of student work-study placement and regular student placement on ABAC's campus, and help students find jobs through the Georgia Department of Labor. He will also administer the Regents' Exam and SAT and ACT tests throughout the year as well as plan Career Day, which is held on the ABAC campus every spring.

Harrington said he has several goals that he hopes to accomplish in his new position.

"First of all, I want to be accessible to the students at ABAC," Harrington said. "I also want to enhance the relationship between Job Placement and the business community and to market ABAC students to corporations regionally."

Harrington replaces Lisa Forshee who moved with her family to Tampa, Fla. For additional information about job placement services at ABAC, contact Harrington at (229) 386-7111 or e-mail him at jharring@abac.edu.
