FIRST TUESDAY SERIES PERFORMANCE NOVEMBER 5 AT ABAC

The next event in the First Tuesday Performance Series will take place Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at Abraham Baldwin College. As part of the Arts and Entertainment Series sponsored by the Abraham Baldwin Arts Connection, regional professional artists will be featured on the first Tuesday of every month in the Chapel of All Faiths on the ABAC campus.

Individual tickets for the performance may be purchased at the door. The cost is $3 for adults and $1 for students. ABAC students are admitted free with ID. The third concert in the series will feature four faculty members at Valdosta State University (VSU): Dr. Kenneth Kirk, trumpet; Dr. Lyle Indergaard, piano; Dr. Carol Mikkelsen, soprano; and Dr. Elizabeth Goode, flute.

A native of Odessa, Texas, Kirk grew up in New Orleans and attended Duke University and Radford University. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Cincinnati.  Kirk has played trumpet with the North Carolina Symphony and the National Opera Orchestra. He has also taught at Roanoke College and the Governor’s Honor Program of Georgia and has twice been the Music Instructor of the Georgia University System Study Abroad Program in Paris.

Kirk is currently a Professor of Music at VSU where he teaches theory and trumpet and conducts the VSU Opera. He performs regularly in the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, the faculty brass quintet, the faculty jazz quintet, and as a solo recitalist.

Indergaard is an Associate Professor of Piano at VSU where he teaches studio and class piano. His degrees include two performance diplomas from the Freiburg Conservatory of Music in Germany and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music. Indergaard has performed throughout Germany and in several other European countries. His upcoming performances include numerous recitals on campus in addition to performances in Savannah, San Francisco, and Eger, Hungary.

            Mikkelsen teaches voice, directs the opera theater, and coordinates vocal studies at VSU. She has been an active performer, researcher, and member/administrator of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). Mikkelsen has researched pre-Romantic Spanish vocal music extensively and has presented lecture-recitals on the topic throughout the United States, most recently at a national convention of NATS in Philadelphia, Pa. She is currently the Coordinator of the NATS Art Song Composition Award Program.

            Goode is an Associate Professor of Music at VSU where she teaches flute and music theory. She received the Doctor of Musical Arts in Flute Performance from Yale University School of Music. She also holds a Master of Music in Music Theory from the University of Tennessee. Goode currently serves as principal flutist of the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and with the faculty woodwind quintet. She has been a member of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, the Oak Ridge Symphony, the New Haven Symphony, Eastern Connecticut Symphony, and Orchestra New England. Goode has been a featured performer at several national Flute Association and College Music Society Conventions.
