Dr. Gail Dillard of Moultrie has been selected as the Director of Evening and Off-Campus Programs at Abraham Baldwin College. Her appointment became effective Oct. 1.

Dillard, who has been an ABAC faculty member since 1990, is also an associate professor of English in ABAC’s Division of Humanities as well as the honors program director and the coordinator of faculty development.

Dillard holds a Ph.D. in English from Florida State University, an M.A. degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a B.A. degree in English from Georgia College at Milledgeville (currently Georgia College & State University).

Dr. Caroline Helms, ABAC’s Interim Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, said Dillard is an excellent choice for the position.

“Gail has been willing to undertake a number of special projects over the past decade or so, ranging from the Honors Program to faculty development to Student Success strategies,” Helms said. “The Evening Program requires the leadership of a person with such initiative.”

Dillard said she has several goals for enhancing ABAC’s evening and off-campus programs.

“As a resident of Moultrie, I am interested in the growth of ABAC’s program there,” Dillard said. “This position allows me to play a direct role in the expansion of ABAC on the Square. I would like to see ABAC expand educational opportunities in other surrounding towns, and in this position I can work toward that goal. There are a lot of adults in this area who need better education and training to improve their lives. I want to maintain the programs already in place, expand them, and develop new programs to enhance the educational opportunities in South Georgia.”

Dillard will complete her teaching obligations for this semester. Next semester, she will teach an honors seminar and an ABAC 1000 class. Dillard replaces Angie Palmer who became ABAC’s Director of Admissions on Aug. 1.
