ABAC ANNOUNCES NEW SCHOLARSHIP

A new scholarship called the Tift County High School Football Scholarship will be available at Abraham Baldwin College beginning with the 2002-03 academic year. The scholarship was established by the TCHS Touchdown Club. The first recipient will be a senior from this year's TCHS football team.

One $500 scholarship will be awarded annually based upon financial need. The recipient must be an incoming ABAC freshman who played TCHS football for at least three years. The ABAC Scholarship and Awards Committee will select the recipient each year from the applications received based upon recommendations from Tommy Seward, Head Football Coach at TCHS.

Raymond Ross, President of the TCHS Touchdown Club, said the scholarship was established to provide opportunities for students to attend college that might not have a chance otherwise.

ABAC Foundation President Melvin Merrill said the Foundation is always pleased to have a new scholarship to make available to students.

"This scholarship is especially important because it is targeted to a select group--Tift County High School football players--and it shows Tifton's support for ABAC," Merrill said. "We hope the scholarship opens up opportunities for these student athletes to attend college and brings potential athletes to ABAC as well."
