ABAC' S QUIZ BOWL TEAM PLACES

IN STATE TOURNAMENT

Abraham Baldwin College's Quiz Bowl Team recently finished in second place at the state competition for two-year colleges held at Middle Georgia College in Cochran. Team members included Tom Gay of Tifton, Amanda Lyons and Clinton Mayo, both from Atlanta, and Dani Scully of Spring Hill, Fla.

ABAC's team competed against Dalton State College (A and B teams), Middle Georgia College (A and B teams), and East Georgia College. The team received a trophy for winning three of the five rounds in which it participated. Gay, team captain, also won a trophy for scoring third highest among all individuals at the competition.

Dr. Erin Campbell, team coach and Instructor of English at ABAC, said she was proud to have the opportunity to coach such intellectually gifted students.

"They really jelled as a team during the state tournament," Campbell said. "We competed remarkably well, and I am thrilled with the team's efforts."

Quiz Bowl members answer trivia questions from categories such as literature, science, history, political science, sports, and pop culture. The ABAC team, which has been in existence for three years, was coached by Dr. Erin O'Neill, Humanities Division Chair, and Dr. Caroline Helms, Social Science Division Chair, in the fall. Other team members this year included Michael Eason, Josh Lavender, and George McMullen.
