ABAC'S PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH CONTINUES

TO MAKE PROGRESS

Twenty-four applications have been received for the position of president at Abraham Baldwin College. Several nominations for other candidates have also been received. Baker-Parker & Associates, the search firm providing executive search services for ABAC's next president, has contacted over 500 community colleges throughout the country as well as 70 of the top agricultural institutions in the United States.

Although the present timetable is subject to change, the Presidential Search and Advisory Committee (PSAC) at ABAC plans to review the applications in early February. Eight to twelve of the top candidates will be interviewed by the PSAC in Atlanta.

Of these candidates, the PSAC will select six to eight individuals to come to Tifton for interviews. The local interview schedules for each of the candidates will be announced so that anyone who wishes to meet with the candidates will have an opportunity to do so.

Following the local interviews, the PSAC will send University System of Georgia Chancellor Stephen R. Portch the names of five candidates who in its opinion would serve the college well as its next president. The interviews by Portch and the Special Regents' Committee, chaired by Regent John Hunt of Tifton, will take approximately two to three weeks. These interviews will probably take place in March.

Dr. Chrystle Ross, ABAC's PSAC Chair, said it is important to continue to solicit nominations.

"Anyone who would like to nominate an individual may do so by e-mailing the search firm principal, Laurie Wilder, at lwilder@bpasearch.com or by contacting me by telephone at (229) 386-3246 or by e-mail at cross@abac.edu," Ross said.

Dr. Harold Loyd retired as ABAC's president on July 31. Dr. Homer Day is serving as interim president.
