Kay Powell, assistant professor in the Division of Business Administration at Abraham Baldwin College, was recently selected as the new Director of ABAC on the Square in Moultrie effective Aug. 1. Powell, who served in this position on a part-time basis since October, 2000, will also continue to teach classes in both Tifton and Moultrie.

As the Director of ABAC on the Square, Powell will be responsible for assisting in planning, developing, organizing, and conducting all aspects of programs or courses conducted at or in conjunction with ABAC in the Moultrie area. Powell holds an A.S. degree in secretarial science and B.S. and M.Ed. degrees in business education, all from Valdosta State University.

"I look forward to the challenges I will face as a new administrator as well as the opportunity to serve my native community and to meet the educational needs of Moultrie, Colquitt County, and the surrounding areas," Powell said. "Now that the position is full-time, I will have additional responsibilities, such as scheduling, working with area high schools and PSO students, and working with the community by acting as a liaison between the various education and business entities."

Angie Palmer, ABAC's Director of Evening and Off-Campus Programs, said she is pleased to have someone with Powell's expertise and background directing the programs at ABAC on the Square.

"As the full-time director, Ms. Powell will be able to concentrate on enhancing the educational programs and services available to students and citizens in the Moultrie/Colquitt County area," Palmer said. "She will not only be able to be more responsive to student needs, but she will also become an integral part of planning appropriate educational opportunities for the community."

Dr. Bettie Horne, ABAC's Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, is also glad that Powell is filling the position of Director of ABAC on the Square.

"I'm very pleased to have this position filled by such a dedicated and talented individual as Kay Powell," Horne said. "As a strong member of the faculty who is technologically proficient, she has strengths in the administrative and teaching aspects of the position. As a native of Colquitt County, she brings an intimate knowledge of the area that will shape the informed decisions she makes in developing programs designed to meet the needs of potential students, businesses, and industries in the area."
