GEAR UP STUDENTS TOUR ABAC AND NESPAL

Abraham Baldwin College's GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) recently provided Irwin County Middle School eighth graders with an opportunity to learn more about college and the environment.

In a visit to ABAC, students toured the campus and learned about the opportunities available at the college. Bertha Daniel, ABAC's Director of College Services, welcomed the students. Mike Chason, ABAC's Director of Public Relations, spoke to the students about the campus and showed a video featuring some of the highlights of ABAC. Students also received information about financial aid and admissions. A meal was provided in the Donaldson Dining Hall after a walking tour of the campus.

The students also toured the National Environmentally Sound Production Agriculture Laboratory (NESPAL). They learned various ways of protecting the environment and participated in hands-on learning activities.

GEAR UP is currently in its third year of working with the Irwin County School System. Staff members strive to prepare students to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. GEAR UP will continue to offer new and educational activities. For additional information about the program, contact Kim Keen, ABAC's Coordinator of GEAR UP, at (229) 391-6806.
