The top faculty member, staff member, administrator, and academic advisor for the 2000-01 academic year were recognized during Tuesday's Honors Day ceremony in Gressette Gym at Abraham Baldwin College.

Nancy Scott, an assistant professor of accounting in the Division of Business Administration, received the W. Bruce Donaldson Award for Teaching Excellence. Teresa Williams, senior secretary in ABAC's Division of Business Administration, received the Roy R. Jackson, Sr. Award for Staff Excellence. Wasdon Graydon, Director of MAP/PREP/TRIO and Coordinator of Federal and Sponsored Programs, received the E. Lanier Carson Leadership Award for College Administrators. Each of these recipients received a plaque and a check for $1,250 from the ABAC Foundation.

Lorie Felton, assistant professor in the Division of Agriculture and Forest Resources, received the Excellence in Advising Award. She will attend the annual meeting of the National Academic Advising Association in Ottawa, Ontario, in October.

Scott attended ABAC and received her bachelor's degree from Georgia State University and her master's degree in business administration from Valdosta State University.

Dr. Bettie Horne, ABAC's Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, said Scott has outstanding ability and works exceptionally well with both students and faculty members. "She strives to stay current in her discipline and constantly tries new approaches to teaching," Horne said. According to a current professor and former student, "[Scott] attests to the fact that the students are always her primary concern, and teaching is her most important duty."

Williams began her employment at ABAC in the Registrar's Office on June 25, 1984. She made the transition to the senior secretary position in that office in July, 1985 and advanced to a staff assistant position in July, 1986. Williams received her Certified Professional Secretary Certification in 1987. In September, 1989, she transferred to Division Secretary. She was presented the outstanding staff member award in 1994. She completed her associate degree in the spring of 1996.

Graydon's association with ABAC began as a student. After completing his education at ABAC, Georgia Southern and Valdosta State University, he returned to ABAC in 1973 as the Project Director of Special Services for Disadvantaged Students. ABAC President Homer Day said Graydon is one of the most organized and dedicated administrators at ABAC. "He is recognized by faculty, staff, students, and the community as a true leader," Day said.

Felton has served as an academic advisor for 12 years. According to a student nomination, "She shows great compassion for her students and encourages them to achieve great things in life." This award was initiated as a way to recognize and reward exemplary advising and to promote growth and development as an academic advisor. Felton teaches in ABAC's horticulture program.
