Bertha Daniel, Interim Director of College Services at Abraham Baldwin College, has accepted the position of Director of College Services effective July 1.
In the position, Daniel will supervise, direct, coordinate budgets, assist in the area of recruitment, and evaluate all areas/personnel of College Services. College Services units include Admissions, the ABAC Arts Station, Educational Outreach & Youth Connection, Public Service & Business Outreach, and Human Resources. She will also be responsible for serving as the Assistant Affirmative Action Officer.
Daniel, an associate professor in ABAC's Division of Social Science, has taught sociology and criminal justice classes since 1991. She has also served as the Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity Officer since 1994.
"I appreciate the support that I have received here at ABAC, and I am elated to have been chosen as Director of College Services," Daniel said. "I have always tried to work hard because I love ABAC, and I plan to do my best as I take on this new role. Most important, I hope that I will serve as an inspiration to all of our students."
Daniel received her Associate degree from ABAC, her Bachelor of Science degree from Valdosta State College, and her Master of Science degree from Troy State University. Her major for all three degrees was criminal justice. Daniel worked in state government for 15 years before returning to ABAC to teach.
Daniel has been active in college, church, and community activities. She is a member of PLIGHT (Proud Loving Individuals Giving A Hand to Teens), Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Tift County Commission on Children and Youth, City Government Representative for Library Board, and Friends United for Education III.
On campus, she serves as the chair of Appropriate Dispute Resolution Committee and has received training in Advanced Mediation. Daniel also serves as the liaison for ABAC with the Chancellor's Regents Initiative on ADR. She is a Mandala Ambassador and has served on numerous standing committees during her time at the college.
Interim President Homer Day was the former Director of College Services prior to moving into the President's Office. He said ABAC is fortunate to have Daniel as the new Director of College Services.
"She has the technical, communication, and personal interaction skills needed to move College Services to the next level," Day said. "A large part of being a good administrator is being a good listener, and she is a very good listener."
