BALDWIN PLAYERS' AUDITIONS JAN. 22 AND 23

The Baldwin Players of Abraham Baldwin College will hold auditions for a Spring Improvisational Comedy Troupe on Jan. 22 and 23 at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium on the ABAC campus. Everyone is welcome. No experience is necessary. The troupe will perform the second weekend in March and perhaps for area civic groups if requested.

ABAC Theatre Director John Galyean said there are several benefits to learning improv.

"Improv makes you quick on your feet--you think of things fast and solve problems with quicker and sharper skill," Galyean said. "In our troupe, you learn a series of games. Each game becomes a sketch. Ten sketches make up a 'lineup,' and that represents a 30-minute show. In the past, the improv troupe has been a spring semester tradition. Once you know the rules of the games, and some precious laws of improv behavior, you can appear to make a great scene out of nothing else but an audience member's suggestion.

"The final and best benefit of performing improvisation," Galyean adds, "is the incredible feeling that comes over you when you make a group of people laugh--and applaud."
