EIGHTEEN GRADUATE FROM ABAC POLICE ACADEMY

          Eighteen individuals from the south Georgia area recently received certificates at graduation exercises for the 169th session of the Regional Police Academy Basic Mandate Class at Abraham Baldwin College.

          Academy Director Tim Dorminey announced that Timothy Quimby of the Valdosta Police Department received the Overall Achievement Award for the 169th session. Quimby also earned the Academic Achievement Award. James Spooner of the Attapulgus Police Department won the first place award for Firearms. Robert Green of the Cordele Police Department won second place for academics. Gordon Hopkins of the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office received the second place award for firearms. Hopkins also served as the president of the class.

          Dr. Gary Roberts, retired professor in the Division of Social Science at ABAC, served as guest speaker at the graduation ceremony.

          Other graduates included Dedra Adkins of Valdosta, who was sponsored by the Georgia Department of Transportation; Robert Atkinson and Frankie Teston of the Douglas Police Department; Dewayne Baisden, Gordon Lent, and Christopher Murphy of the Dawson Police Department; Timothy Brice of the Houston County Sheriff's Office; Joseph Gosseck and Raymond Whitfield of the Valdosta Police Department; Brad Kinnebrew of the Hahira Police Department; Carla Pollock of Camilla, who was sponsored by the Southwest Georgia Drug Task Force; Michael Welch of the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office; Fredrick Wimberly of the Miller County Sheriff's Office; and Thomas Yingling of Perry, who was sponsored by the Fort Valley State University Department of Public Safety.

          The Regional Police Academy regularly holds multi-week intensive training sessions designed to acquaint officers with state-of-the-art law enforcement techniques. The Academy operates in cooperation with the Division of Social Science at ABAC.
