Regents’ Test Tuesday

   Please remind your students that the Regents’ Test will be administered at ABAC on Tuesday at 9 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 6 p.m.  Students must sign in today from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Student Development Center to confirm their reservation for the test even if they have pre-registered.  Students requesting extended time should report to Conger Hall, Room 213.  A photo ID is required.

 

Golf Tournament on Saturday

   The ABAC Athletics Golf Tournament will take place on Saturday at Forest Lakes Golf Club.  The cost is $60 per person for each member of a four-person team.  All proceeds support men’s and women’s basketball at ABAC.   The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.  Special prizes include a trip, a set of golf clubs, and a chance to hit a hole-in-one to win a car.  To sign up, contact Robert Moore at 386-3932 or Julie Conner at 386-3927.

 

Women’s History Program Today

   A panel discussion titled Women of Achievement:  Celebrating the Role of Women in Society will be held today at noon in the Cordell Conference Room, Section C.  The event is sponsored by the Minority Advising Program.  Everyone is invited to attend.

   Panel members include Vernell Thomas, Minister, Power of Deliverance Church; Dr. Bettie Horne, Administrative Associate, Georgia Board of Regents; Dalonda Artis, Chemical Laboratory Associate, Georgia Department of Agriculture; and Shaundra Clark, Director, Tifton Housing Authority.  Horne is the former Vice President for Academic Affairs at ABAC.

 

Claremont Trio Tuesday

   The Claremont Trio, an ensemble of three of the brightest new stars in the classical world, will perform a full-length concert on Tuesday in the Tift Theater for the Performing Arts in downtown Tifton at 7 p.m. and an encore performance Wednesday at noon in the Ocilla Methodist Church.  The trio is comprised of twenty -two year old twins Emily Bruskin, violinist, and Julia Bruskin, cellist, plus twenty-four year old Donna Kwong, pianist. 

   Admission is free to all students and Arts and Entertainment Series Subscribers.  For others, admission is $5 at the door.  For more information, call the ABAC Arts Connection at 386-3558.

   The Claremont Trio is brought to South Georgia by:  UGA Vice President of Public Service and Outreach; UGA Office of Performing Arts; Tifton-Tift County Arts Council; UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center; Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce; and the ABAC Arts Connection.

 

Speech Showcase on Wednesday

   The 34th annual Lew Akin Spring Speech Showcase will be held on Wednesday.  Preliminary rounds will take place at 4 p.m. in the Cordell Conference Room, Sections A, B, & C.  The top speakers from these rounds will then advance to the final round which will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Sections A and B in the Cordell Conference Room. 

 

Softball, Tennis This Week

   The Golden Fillies of Coach Donna Campbell will host Santa Fe for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday at Fillie Field.

   The Golden Stallions of Coach Alan Kramer will host Sinclair Community College for a 2 p.m. tennis match at the ABAC Tennis Center also on Tuesday. 

   The Golden Fillies of Coach Alton Hudgins will host Young Harris for a 3 p.m. tennis match at the ABAC Tennis Center on Friday.

 

Open Campus Day April 12

   The annual Spring Open Campus Day will be held on April 12 from 10 a.m.-noon in the Cordell Conference Room of the Carlton Center.  Exhibits can be set up in Section A of the Cordell Conference Room from 1-5 p.m. on April 11.

 

 

Homecoming 2003 April 4-5

   Alumni from across Georgia and the surrounding states will return to the campus of ABAC on April 4-5 for Homecoming 2003. The theme for this year’s event is “ABAC: Building for the Future.” The event will focus on new buildings, the new Pedestrian Mall, and new programs planned for the future.

   A special candlelight memorial service will pay tribute to deceased alumni on April 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths. Individuals will be given the opportunity to light a candle in memory of anyone associated with ABAC—a former classmate, family member, faculty or staff member, or friend. An added feature this year will be the opportunity to light a candle in honor of the men and women serving in the Armed Forces.

   The Homecoming Dinner and Dance will begin at 7:30 p.m. on April 4 in the Donaldson Dining Hall. The dance, which begins at 8:30 p.m., will feature the music of the Jim Newton Band. The dinner and dance are open to alumni and anyone who would like to attend at a cost of $20 per person. With the theme, “An Evening in Savannah,” the dinner is sure to be a culinary delight.

   The keynote speaker for the Forum on Agriculture will be Dr. David Bridges, Assistant Dean, University of Georgia Tifton Campus. He will discuss the new four-year degree programs developed through a partnership with ABAC and UGA. The forum is sponsored by the Ag Alumni Council and will begin at 30 10: a.m. on April 5 in the Cordell Conference Room of the Carlton Center.                 

   Eight Alumni Awards will be presented at the Awards Luncheon on April 5 at noon in the Donaldson Dining Hall. The Young Alumni Cookout will take place at noon at the Rowan Pavilion at Lake Baldwin. This event is hosted by the Ag Division.

   Members of the Class of 1953 will be presented their Golden Alumni bronze medallions as they are honored during the Golden Alumni luncheon at noon on April 4.

Two Free Tickets to the Gatlins

   Enter our on-line contest to rename ABAC’s annual scholarship benefit banquet and show (formerly known as Dollars for Scholars). The winner will receive two tickets to this year’s event to be held on May 9.  The contest entry form can be found at http://www.abac.edu/foundation/DFS/contest.htm. The deadline for entries is April 4.  Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers will be this year’s featured performers.

 

Pork Chops Thursday

   The ABAC Ag Division is selling pork chop dinner plates at a cost of $6 each.  The plates can be picked up at the Yow Building on Thursday from 4-6 p.m.  Call 3255 to purchase your tickets.

 

Six Flags Tickets

   The Office of Human Resources has discount cards to Six Flags Over Georgia.  The card is reusable and valid for 15 people.  It is good for any day all season.  The park opened March 15.  With this card each person pays $24.99 per visit to Six Flags and $23.99 for Six Flags White Water.  (If you are over 55, you get in for this price without a card.)  The tickets are available in the Human Resources or email jthompso@abac.edu and she will send them to you via campus mail.

 

 

First Tuesday April 1

    The April event in the First Tuesday Concert Series will take place on April 1 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths.  The ABAC Brass Quintet, the ABAC Clarinet Choir, the ABAC Saxophone Quartet, and various other local musicians will be featured.

    Tickets for the performance may be purchased at the door. The cost is $3 for adults and $1 for students. ABAC students are admitted free with ID. Patrons of the Arts and Entertainment Series can also attend at no charge. For additional information, contact the Arts Connection at 386-3558.

 

Honors Day April 9

   The annual Honors Day ceremony will take place on April 9 at 11 a.m. in Gressette Gym.  Please mark your calendar.

 

Concert Band April 10

   Eugene Wyles and the ABAC Concert Band will be in performance at the Tift County High School Performing Arts Center on April 10 at 7:30 p.m. 

 

George Scott Day April 15

   The annual George Scott Day activities will take place on April 15.  The highlight of the day will be a visit by famed trumpet player Maynard Ferguson.

 

RHA Benefit Yard Sale April 26

   The third annual Residence Hall Association Benefit Yard Sale will be held on April 26 from 7 a.m.-1 p.m.  Rent your tables from the RHA, and you keep the proceeds from your items sold.  Individuals, clubs, churches, and civic groups are welcome.  For more information, call Bernice Hughes at 386-3233 or email her at bhughes@abac.edu.  Rental costs are listed below.  Payment must be received in the Housing Office (ABAC 24) by 4 p.m. on April 23.  The first 15 people to send their checks in will choose their booth placement and receive a set of 216 pre-printed price tags.

   Dr. Sue Hammons presented The Virtual Colleague:  Postmodernity and Partnerships at Valdosta State University’s eighth annual Women’s Studies Conference on March 14.
