Atlanta Symphony Thursday

   The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will perform Thursday at the Tift County High School Performing Arts Center in the first installment in this year’s Arts and Entertainment Series from the ABAC Arts Connection.  Season subscriptions for this series are available at a cost of $50, $15 for students under 18, and free to ABAC students.  Call  3558 to sign up.

 

Baldwin Players Tonight

   Auditions for the fall production of the Baldwin Players will be held tonight and Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Conger 319.  Baldwin Players Director John Galyean said The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter will run Nov. 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. in Conger 319.  Call Galyean at 3099 for info.

 

Technology Day on Wednesday

   Vendors from Compaq, Cingular, Radio Shack, Staples, and other local computer service and sales companies will be in the Cordell Conference Room to display their products on Technology Day on Wednesday.  Displays will be open from 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m.  They will be closed from noon-1 p.m.  Faculty members will definitely want to visit the Southern Business Communications vendor who will display some new technology for use in the classroom, including the latest Smartboard, Symposium, and StarPanel interactive panels.

   Steve Bush of Brighthand Consulting will share his experiences with personal digital assistants (PDAs) in the classroom from 3-4 p.m. in Section C of the Cordell Conference Room in a presentation titled The Dog Ate My PDA .

 

Ceremony on Wednesday

   A brief ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the flag pole in front of Tift Hall to commemorate the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.  All faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend.  Feel free to dress in your most patriotic red, white, and blue.

The ceremony should end at 8:45 a.m.  The Chapel of All Faiths will be open all day for quiet reflection.

 

Only a Few Remain

   Tickets for the Tom M. Cordell Distinguished Lecture Series featuring Janisse Ray on Sept. 23 are running in short supply in the Public Relations Office.  There is no charge for the tickets, but due to limited seating capacity in the Cordell Conference Room, you must pick up your tickets prior to the event.  Ray is the author of Ecology of a Cracker Childhood.  The book is being used in the Freshman Seminar classes at ABAC.

 

Poetry Reading Wednesday

   ABAC’s literary magazine, Pegasus, will host a memorial service for the 9/11 tragedy on Wednesday from 3-4 p.m. in the Student Courtroom on the third floor of the J. Lamar Branch Student Center.  You are invited to bring your own writings or relevant writings by other s for open-mike readings to memorialize this tragic event. Ambassadors on Board

  The ABAC Ambassadors are a group of students who assist the college at various activities throughout the year.  They are particularly useful for the Public Relations and Admissions offices in spreading the great word about ABAC.  New Ambassadors include Laura Bland, an undeclared major from Tifton; Deisi Del Toro, a communications/theatre major from Gainesville; Mary Beth DeMott, a family and consumer sciences education major from Moultrie; Amanda Hayes, a communications major from Lenox; Emily McGill, a pharmacy major from Tifton; Joel McKie, an agribusiness major from Abbeville; Kevin Mitchell, a political science major from Ocilla; Matthew North, a business administration major from Hahira; Erick Palacios, a business administration major from Cedartown; Jennifer Raynor , a business administration major from Fitzgerald; C.J. Robinson, a nursing major from Omega; Judy Shiflet, a business major from Tifton; Trish Stephens, an agricultural education major from Tifton; and Brett Tucker, an agricultural engineering major from Ocilla. 

   Ambassador advisors are Mike Chason, Pam Leonard, and Bruce Applewhite.  Applewhite coordinated the annual fall retreat last weekend at Lake Blackshear.

Standing Room Only

   A standing room only crowd greeted the initial First Tuesday presentation of the Abraham Baldwin Arts Connection on Sept. 3.  The next First Tuesday is scheduled for Oct. 1.  Mark your calendar.

 

It’s Official!

   Information Technology and Services Executive Director Chrystle Ross has announced that the official software for institutional administration support is Microsoft Office.  OITS will provide targeted training beginning this month.  If you know of specific tasks which you need to be able to perform using Microsoft Office products which you will need assistance with, please bring them to the attention of the OITS staff.  Training classes will be set according to your needs.

 

Deadline is Today

   Any ABAC employee may nominate one eligible staff member for the Staff Forum Award by today at 5 p.m.  The nomination form must be completed and returned to Amy Willis.  The next Staff Forum meeting is scheduled for Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. in the Cordell Conf. Room.

 

Care and Concern

Former ABAC Nursing faculty member Sandie Delk has returned home from a visit to Emory University Hospital. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

 

Baldwin Film Group

   The Baldwin Film Group will sponsor The Maltese Falcon on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Conger Hall, Room 317.  Everyone is welcome.  There is no admission charge.  The film is not rated and runs 101 minutes. For more information, contact Dr. Marc Steinberg or Jeff Newberry.

   The officers and board of directors of the ABAC Alumni Association will meet Friday at 10 a.m. in the Development/Alumni Office.  If you see these former students on campus, please welcome them back to their alma mater.
