'Let's Roll' Flag Raising on May 20

Mark your calendar for a very special ceremony at 8:15 a.m. on May 20. Meet at the flagpole in front of Tift Hall for a brief ceremony honoring Todd Beamer, one of the heroes of the ill-fated United Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001. A flag has been designed with Beamer's famous last words, "Let's roll." It has moved from Albany State, to Darton College, to Bainbridge College, to Valdosta State, and on May 20 it will be at ABAC to fly for several days.

The flag visit is sponsored by Safe Communities. Once all 34 institutions have flown the flag, it will be presented to Mrs. Beamer and her daughter on Sept. 11, 2002. Make your plans to attend.

New Zip Code Coming

ABAC will have a new zip code at some yet to be determined date in June. The new zip code will be 31793-2601. Any new publications or stationery should reflect this new zip code. The old zip code will be effective for at least another year. There is no need to start trashing letterhead or brochures simply because of the 31794 zip code.

ServSafe Administered

Ken Kaufman administered the ServSafe food safety program examination to ABAC Hospitality Management students on April 25. This program is one of the restaurant industry's strongest educational tools. Shannon Giager scored well enough to become a Registered ServSafe Instructor. Such distinction is limited to those who score a 90 percent or better on the national exam. The ServSafe program focuses on the FDA Food Codes. Giager's certification is recognized by more federal, state, and local health jurisdictions than any other food safety training program in the U.S.
