Baldwin Players on Stage

The Baldwin Players will present the play “The Birthday Party” by Harold Pinter on Thursday-Saturday in Room 319 in Conger Hall.

Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. each night. General admission is $5. There is no charge for ABAC faculty, staff, and students. The play is for a mature audience--generally theatre goers of high school age or above.

The cast includes Anna K. Pittman of Pitts as LuLu, Kati Wheeler of Tifton as Meg, Jacques Le Cour of Schannock, R.I., as McCann, J. L. Stewart of Nashville as Goldberg, David Charles Thompson of Winder as Stanley, and Brock Gallops of Columbus as Petey. The Assistant Director/Stage Manager is Paula E. Teague of Ellijay.

A drama with dark and sometimes comedic overtones, “The Birthday Party” is about a musician who escapes to a dilapidated boarding house, where he falls victim to the shadowy, ritualized violence of two men who have followed him from his sinister past.

Pinter is considered one of the most important playwrights in the English language. “The Birthday Party” was first staged in London in 1958.

For additional information, contact Dr. John Galyean, Director of Theatre and the Baldwin Players, at 3099.

ABAC Foundation on the Go

Chairman Butch Davis and the Board of Trustees of the ABAC Foundation are really on the move.  Since the beginning of the year, the Foundation has accepted a $1 million gift of the 91-acre Forest Lakes Golf Club from Dr. Larry Moorman and his wife, Debra.  The Foundation has initiated several new scholarships, including the Mara Guadalupe Cervantes Memorial Scholarship and the Dorris Garrison Nelson Memorial Scholarship, and perhaps most importantly of all, it is the driving force behind the plan to build new residence halls on the ABAC campus.

“I am just so proud of the job that volunteers with our Foundation do every day,”  ABAC President Mike Vollmer said.  “The average person on this campus would not believe the number of volunteer hours these men and women put in every single month.”

Development Director Melvin Merrill said the Foundation’s plan to assist in the construction of the residence halls has been a time consuming affair.

“It has taken a lot of time,” Merrill said.  “But in the long run, it is going to pay great dividends for ABAC students.  I am looking forward to the day when we have new modern residence halls for our students to live in.”

Members of the Foundation also poured long hours of work into the development of the Red Hill Athletic Center, a privately funded building on our campus which had its grand opening in August.  The center is located adjacent to the tennis courts and features dressing rooms for baseball, softball, and tennis athletes, as well as offices for various coaches.  The parking lot in front of the center is expected to be paved in the near future.

The entire Board of Trustees of the Foundation meets quarterly on our campus.  Many other meetings take place on a weekly or a monthly basis.  If you see a Foundation Board member, please thank them for all they do for our college.
