on the new Enrollment Services Office.
The complete Registrar’s Office operation is now located at the One-Stop
Shop, along with personnel from the Admissions Office and Business Office. The
very first student to use the new operation will be introduced. There will be light refreshments and tours of
the office.
Concert Band, Choir on Thursday
ABAC’s Concert Band and Concert Choir will present their
annual Fall Concert on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Tift County High School
Performing Arts Center. There is no charge for admission.
The Concert
Band, directed by Eugene Wyles, will perform L. Aime Maillart’s “The Dragoons of Villars,” an example of early 19th century
Romanticism. The piece was taken from an opera of the same name and transcribed
for band performances. The band will also perform “Brighton Beach,” a concert march
in British style composed by William P. Latham; “Anthem for Winds and
Percussion,” a contemporary piece written by Claude T. Smith; “From Whom All
Blessings Flow,” a hymn tune set in a symphonic setting for bands by Ed Huckeby; and “America the Beautiful,” composed by Samuel
Augustus Ward and arranged by Carmen Dragon. While the band plays this
song, ABAC’s
Director of Public Relations Mike Chason will read I Am Your Flag.
The Concert
Choir, directed by Wayne Jones, will perform a “mixture of folk songs, art
songs, and pieces related to Christmas.” Selections include the following: a
Slavic piece called “Crn-Bel,” “Still, Still, Still,”
“Of the Father’s Love Begotten,” a 13th century plainsong; “O Magnum
Mysterium,” a sacred Latin piece composed by Morten Lauridsen of the Los
Angeles Master Chorale; and a Russian piece called “Veniki.”

The Ag Division
student groups will feature a pork chop plate dinner on Wednesday. The cost is $6 per plate. Contact Dr. Larry Allen for

everyone who pitched in and did a great job at the fall Open Campus Day. Admissions Director Angie Palmer reports 108

to all who made our visitors feel welcome.
Heroes of October
13
Science-Math
Division Chair Ray Barber reports on a handful of heroes who saved the day in
Britt Hall on Sunday, October 13. Heavy
rain and a clogged main internal building drain resulted in the accumulation of
large quanitites of water in the vertical storm
drains of Britt Hall. When the
overflowing started, these heroes arrived on the scene. Kim Scarborough, Billy
Joe Brannen, Dr. Earl Bennett, Jerry Edwards, Jim
Folds, Phyllis Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Giager,
Nancy Brannen and her daughter, Keri, Kirby Ireland,
Joel Bruce, Steve Moore, and Jack Larry prevented a major building disaster.
Barber said
thanks to this devoted team, the cost of supplies that were damaged and
discarded was limited to about $300. It
could have been worse, much worse. Give
a word of appreciation to these ABAC heroes the next time you see one of them
on campus.
Quiz Bowl Rolls
ABAC’s Quiz Bowl Team ended up with an overall record of
15-1 in a recent tournament at Valencia Community College in Orlando. Coach Erin Campbell’s team finished second in
the competition to Bainbridge College.
Jeff Newberry has joined the team as the assistant coach. Congratulations to these ABAC students and
their coaches.
Patterson
Paintings in Library
ABAC faculty
member Hazelyn Patterson has paintings which will
hang in the Baldwin Library until Dec. 4.
Please stop by and see them.
Movie on Wednesday
The Baldwin
Film Group will present McCabe and Mrs.
Miller on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Conger 317. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to
this free event.
Care & Concern
Rebecca Harnage is recuperating at home after undergoing outpatient
surgery. Margie Senkbeil’s
husband, Gene, is hospitalized at Tift Regional Medical Center due to
complications from diabetes. Please keep
these members of the ABAC Family in your thoughts and prayers.

Update
As of Nov. 14, the
ABAC employee contributions to the State Charitable Contributions Campaign totaled $5,526 with
63 participating. Thanks to all who have contributed toward this year’s
campaign. A single $1 donation is not
too little to contribute. After all, if
we each do a little we can accomplish great things. If you would like to make a last minute
donation, please call Bam Pirkle or Bertha Daniel at
7232. On behalf of all the agencies that
will benefit from your donations, thanks to the ABAC faculty and staff for
“caring to share.”
