Alan Kramer (right) receives award for Southeast Region Athletic Director of the Year from Walker Jones, Under Armour Vice President for Marketing

Kramer Named SE Region Athletic Director of the Year by NACDA

TIFTON – Alan Kramer, coach of the men’s and women’s tennis teams and athletic director at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, was recently named the 2009-2010 Junior and Community Colleges Southeast Region Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

The recognition was an unexpected one for the St. Louis, Mo., native.  Dr. Niles Reddick, Vice President of Academic Affairs at ABAC, nominated Kramer for the honor.

“When I saw the award, I felt that Coach Kramer does such a terrific job that there was no way he couldn’t win,” said Reddick.

Kramer was honored in a formal ceremony in Anaheim, Calif.

“The ceremony was amazing,” said Kramer. “It was a very emotional and humbling experience and great for ABAC to be out in front of everyone.”

Kramer made it clear that his professional achievements of this nature are not accomplished alone.

“When I get recognized for an award like this, I know none of it would be possible without the help and support of the entire campus,” said Kramer. “Whether it’s the Office of Enrollment Services helping us with the admissions process or student leaders helping new players get adjusted to campus life, it reflects a group effort and shows that ABAC athletics is going in the right direction.”

Kramer was inducted into the National Junior College Athletic Association Women’s Tennis Hall of Fame earlier this year for his contribution to women’s tennis.  He was also named ITA/Wilson National Intercollegiate Women’s Coach of the Year in 1998 and 2007, and has been named the Region XVII Coach (Men’s and Women’s) of The Year 19 times since he began coaching at ABAC.

The ABAC Fillies have won 17 consecutive Region XVII championships.  Under Kramer’s leadership, the ABAC Stallions have won eight Region XVII championships.  ABAC has finished as national runner-up three times since he has been coaching the teams.  The ABAC men’s team has been ranked in the top 10 in the country for a decade.

Kramer has coached a total of 51 All-America selections and two national champions in his coaching career. He is currently serving as the President of the NJCAA Men’s Tennis Coaches Association.
