FIRST TUESDAY CONCERT AT ABAC OCTOBER 6
TIFTON
–The First Tuesday Concert at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Oct. 6
will feature the college’s music faculty. Faculty members include Andrew
Davidson, Don Coates, Dr. Susan Roe, and Wayne Jones.
The concert will take place at 7 p.m. in the ABAC Chapel
of All Faiths. Tickets for the performance can be purchased at the door. The
cost is $3 for adults and $1 for students. ABAC students are admitted free with
ID. Patrons of the Arts and Entertainment Series can attend at no charge. An
art exhibit and refreshments will be held in the ABAC music building
immediately after the concert.
Davidson is in his second year at ABAC serving as an adjunct
professor of music appreciation and class piano. In addition to his teaching
duties, he serves as staff accompanist as well as the accompanist for the ABAC
Choirs. He received his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University (FSU)
where he studied under Leonidas Lipovetsky. He recently earned his Master of Music degree
in Piano Performance from Valdosta State University (VSU). He has excelled in
solo piano, vocal, and choral competitions and has vast knowledge of chamber
music, the opera, and the ballet. After
graduating from FSU he took over as the principle rehearsal pianist for the
Tallahassee Ballet Theater.
Coates is a graduate of Central Florida
Community College, where he earned an Associate of Arts degree and of Brigham
Young University where he earned his Bachelor of Music Education, specializing
in secondary and post-secondary music education. After completing his Master of
Music Education degree from FSU in 1974, Coates joined the ABAC faculty. He is
responsible for the organization of ABAC’s prestigious Jazz Ensemble that
performed at The Montreux Jazz Festival in
Switzerland in the summer of 2007.
Roe earned a Bachelor
of Music degree from Converse College, a Master of Church Music in vocal
pedagogy from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctorate of
Musical Arts in vocal performance from the University of South Carolina. Roe served on the faculty of Francis Marion
University for 10 years as a tenured assistant professor of music before moving
to Tifton in 1996. She taught at VSU before joining the ABAC faculty in a full
time position in the fall of 2002. She is currently associate professor of voice
at ABAC, director of the First Tuesday Performance Series and the director of choral
music.
Jones is Director of the Abraham Baldwin Arts Connection. He received his Bachelor of Music Degree in vocal performance from Shorter College and a M.M. degree in vocal performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. After completing his degree at the University of Cincinnati, Jones did post-graduate work at the University of Georgia. Jones has been a member of the ABAC faculty since 1989. He is frequent performer throughout the region as both a conductor and soloist.
