All-Time Leading Soccer Scorer Would Like To Play In Pros
TIFTON—
With 26 goals in her freshman season, Fillies’ soccer player Katrina Duncan
Marshalleck set the record for most goals in a season for the Fillies of Abraham
Baldwin Agricultural College. This year
the sophomore physical therapy major from London, England is hoping to break
her own record.
“I can’t believe it, and I’m very proud of the
honor,” said Marshalleck. “I didn’t expect to do so well in the first season.”
Marshalleck
has scored 21goals this season and has led the Fillies to a 9-3-1 record. ABAC is at home today against South Georgia
College at 3 p.m.
Marshalleck
has been playing soccer seriously since 2000, but had always played for fun as
a child.
“I
was about 11 when I started playing competitively,” said Marshalleck.
What
attracted her to ABAC were all the facilities the college had to offer and the small
size of both the campus and community.
While
on the team, Marshalleck has really enjoyed her experiences as a member of the
Fillies.
“The
trips and practices when all of the girls come together with all our different
personalities are really great,” Marshalleck said. “They make me feel welcome,
and it is hard to be homesick when I’m around them.”
She
is looking at her options once her ABAC career is over.
“I
will graduate in fall 2010, but I may transfer before then,” Marshalleck
said. “I will have to see what happens. Right now,
the next step is definitely soccer.
“I
would like to play soccer professionally after college. If I play in England
I’d like to play for Chelsea, but if I stay in America I would like to play for
a team like the Boston Breakers.”
