Daugharty
To Hold Book Signing At ABAC October 15
TIFTON
– Author Janice
Daugharty will visit the campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Oct.
15 at 2 p.m. in Bowen Hall, Room 100 for a reading of her new collection of
short stories, “Going to Jackson.” Prior
to the reading, Daugharty will visit the Introduction to Rural Studies
class.
A book signing and reception sponsored
by ABAC’s literary magazine, “Pegasus,” will be held after the reading. The reading,
book signing, and reception are open to the general public at no charge.
“Daugharty has been and continues to be
a prolific southern writer who will earn her place in southern literature on an
international scale,” Dr. Niles Reddick, ABAC Vice President of Academic
Affairs, said.
Daugharty is a native of Echols County
and began writing at the age of 39. She credits fellow author Joyce Carol Oates
with her initial success. Daugharty published
a collection of short stories, “Going Through the Change”, in 1994. Since then she has penned seven novels.
Her novels are based around the
fictional town of Cornerville, a typical town in South Georgia. Her stories
often deal with such social issues as religious hypocrisy, rigid class
structure, and racial prejudice, but her primary goal is to entertain through
her writings.
“She has given a voice to the characters
who have populated the rural south like no one before her,” Reddick said.
