ABAC
TO HOST CHORAL DAY NOVEMBER 14
TIFTON
- The third annual Choral Day at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will be
held on Nov. 14 in Howard Auditorium on the campus of ABAC. This event is made
possible by the Grassroots Arts Program and the Student Activities Committee.
The event is free and open to the public.
Choral
students from local area high schools and surrounding counties will be
attending this event. They will practice with members of the ABAC Jazz Choir
and Chamber Singers for a concert to be presented that afternoon at 4 p.m. in
Howard Auditorium. This year’s guest clinician is Dr. Stanley Roberts from
Mercer University. Roberts will work with all the students throughout the day
leading up to the performance.
Roberts
is the Arthur Lowndes Rich Professor of Choral Conducting and Associate Dean of
Mercer University’s Townsend School of Music.
He is highly regarded as a conductor and clinician and has conducted
many different choirs throughout the United States.
The
concert will feature a unique selection of Christmas songs from German pieces
to spirituals. Some music that will be
performed includes: “Psallite” by Michael Praetorius, “What Sweeter Music” by John Rutter, “Star
in the East” arranged by Milbum
Price, “Rise up, Shepherd and Follow” arranged
by Gordon Thomett, and “I Saw Three
Ships” arranged by Andrew Carter.
