Fort Valley Student Takes Helm of ABAC Student Government

TIFTON—Student Government Association President Kati Andrews knows how important it is to be involved in extracurricular activities on the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College campus.  Now she wants to share that key to success in college with her ABAC classmates.

“One of my main goals this year is to let students know how they can get involved in student activities,” Andrews, a sophomore biology major from Fort Valley, said.  “There are so many chances for students to be involved.  SGA is just one example.”

Andrews was president of the sophomore class at ABAC this year.  She was also secretary of the Agricultural Engineering Technology club and secretary of the ABAC FFA chapter.

The 20-year-old Peach County High School graduate was also a Community Assistant (CA) in the ABAC Lakeside residence hall this year.  That allowed her to meet a lot of the freshman students living on campus.

“I encouraged people to get out of their rooms and get to know each other,” Andrews said.  “I enjoy meeting different people.  I have a lot of diverse friends.  The students at Peach County were a very diverse crowd.”

Andrews never thought a lot about ABAC before she enrolled.

“I thought it would be a good transition school,” Andrews said.  “I knew it was small.  Then I fell in love with it.  I wanted to get involved, and there are a lot of really great people here.  I like the small college atmosphere.”

Andrews plans to be a dentist one day but right now her days are consumed with getting ready for the return of the ABAC students for the fall semester on Aug. 17.

“I want to get a lot of stuff organized this summer,” Andrews said.  “There are some creative things we can do.  I also want to work a lot with the alumni to get ready for the week when they return to the campus.”
