COX TO SPEAK AT ABAC MARCH 27

TIFTON—Former Georgia Secretary of State Cathy Cox will speak at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College at noon on March 27 in Howard Auditorium.  She will be a part of the celebration of Women’s History Month to discuss Women: Inspiring Hope and Possibilities.

The event is free of charge and presented by Student Support Services and the Student Support Leadership Club at ABAC.  Seating will be on a first come, first served basis. Lunch will be provided after the presentation.

Cox is a native of Bainbridge and an ABAC alumna.  While at ABAC, she received her associate’s degree in agriculture and furthered her education at the University of Georgia, attaining a journalism degree. She worked as a news writer for “The Gainesville Times” before deciding on a change in career path that led to a Mercer University Law School degree.

Cox practiced law from 1993 – 1996 and served three years as Assistant Secretary of State before being elected as the first woman to serve as Secretary of the State for Georgia in 1998. She served in the position until 2007. Currently, Cox is the President of Young Harris College.
