STALLION WINS AGAIN AT SOUTHERN REGIONAL
PRESS INSTITUTE
TIFTON – For the second time this year, the student newspaper at
“The Stallion” recently added the top honor from the
Southern Regional Press Institute after being selected a month ago as the best
in the state from the Georgia College Press Association.
In addition to winning first place for Outstanding University Newspaper in the two-year category, “The Stallion” staff also brought home a total of seven individual awards from the 58th Southern Regional Press Institute awards luncheon.
In the individual categories, first place wins went to Steven Stubbs of Rochelle for Sports and Crissie Elrick of Pembroke for Newswriting. Second place finishes went to Rebekah Bowen of Fitzgerald for Newswriting, Parker Ferren of Tallahassee, Fla., for Sports, and Stubbs for Editorial/Columns. Third place awards went to Chivaun Perez of Tifton for Editorial/Columns and Stubbs for Newswriting.
The Fall 2008 newspaper staff included Dorough and Richie
Knight of Covington, Managing Editors; Stubbs and Amelia Gutierrez of
Clewiston, Fla., News Editors; Ferren, Sports Editor; Dorough, Opinion Editor;
Antonia Gorham of Hinesville, Lifestyles Editor; Knight, Online Editor; Joanna
Ware of Soperton, Business Manager, and Zebb Luster of Fort Myers, Fla.,
Advertising Representative.
The Spring 2008 staff included Kristina Story of Augusta,
Managing Editor; Elrick, Taylor Hand of Tifton, and Amy Kuczynski of Valdosta,
News Editors; Stubbs and Geoffrey Brown of Tifton, Sports Editors; Ansley
Fender of Tifton, Opinion Editor; Adam Smith of Tifton and Dorough, Lifestyle Editors;
Shekanah Ficklin of Albany, Online Editor, and Cecil Walls of Denton, Business
Manager.
Dr. Eric Cash is faculty adviser for the ABAC newspaper.
