SEVENTEEN GRADUATE FROM POLICE ACADEMY AT ABAC

TIFTON—Seventeen individuals from the South Georgia area recently received certificates at graduation exercises for the 232nd session of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) Regional Police Academy at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Academy Director Marty Smith said the Overall Achievement award for the session was awarded to Corey R. Martin of the Tifton Police Department. First place in Academics went to Steven T. Colgan, Jr., of the Moultrie Police Department, and second place was awarded to James M. Dampier of the Quitman Police Department.

First place in Firearms was awarded to Joshua C. Callaghan of Nashville, sponsored by the GPSTC, and second place went to James C. Sellers of the Pelham Police Department. The President of the 232^nd session was Stephen C. Forsythe of the Cordele Police Department.

Other graduates included James M. Evarts of the Camilla Police Department; James M. Shingler and William M. Shingler, Jr., of Donalsonville, sponsored by the GPSTC; Rocky C. Hancock, Jr., of the Moultrie Police Department; John C. Lovein, Jr., and Derrek G. Manning of Nashville, sponsored by the GPSTC; Russell E. Owens of the Tift County Sheriff’s Office; Brian W. Cox and Brandon M. Luckey of the Whigham Police Department and Brandon L. Jewell and Gray W. Jewell of Willacoochee, sponsored by the GPSTC.

GPSTC Regional Police Academy regularly holds multi-week intensive training sessions designed to acquaint officers with state-of-the-art law enforcement techniques. The Academy operates in cooperation with the School of Human Sciences at ABAC.
