FUNDING CONTINUES FOR UPWARD BOUND PROGRAMS

TIFTON – Funding for the Classic and Tiftarea Upward Bound programs at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College has been renewed for this year, beginning Sept. 1.  A total of $572,934 has been awarded to the programs from the U.S. Department of Education, Federal TRIO Programs.   The Classic program received continued funding in the amount of $321,334, and the Tiftarea program received continued funding in the amount of $251,600.

The primary goal of the ABAC Upward Bound Program is to assist students in Atkinson, Ben Hill, Berrien, Colquitt, Cook, Irwin, Tift, Turner, and Worth counties in completing high school and successfully pursuing post-secondary training.

“At the end of each year, an annual report is submitted and if objectives are met, funding continues,” said Ken Newkirk, Director of the ABAC Upward Bound programs.

“To be funded initially, and every four years after, a 100-page application that includes justification of the funding, what services will be provided, a calendar, resumes of each staff member and their qualifications, and commitment support letters from the campus and community have to be submitted,” said Newkirk.

The Upward Bound program has been funded on the ABAC campus since 1977.
