FIRST TUESDAY CONCERT AT ABAC MARCH 3


TIFTON –The First Tuesday Concert at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on March 3 will feature soprano Marti Braziel Schert; pianists Valerie Holton and Erin Palmer; and cellist Steven Taylor.  They will perform classical pieces from Mozart, Beethoven and other composers.

            The concert will take place at 7 p.m. in the ABAC Chapel of All Faiths. Tickets for the performance can be purchased at the door. The cost is $3 for adults and $1 for students. ABAC students are admitted free with ID. Patrons of the Arts and Entertainment Series can attend at no charge. An art exhibit and refreshments will be held in the ABAC music building immediately after the concert.

Schert has served on the Valdosta State University (VSU) faculty as an instructor in voice and currently serves as an instructor in upper school music with Valwood Schools. She has appeared in numerous opera performances in Atlanta, Macon, and Valdosta and was a soloist with the Savannah Symphony.

Taylor attended The Juilliard School from 1980-85, earning a Bachelor and Master degree in music.  He served as the principal cellist at the school. He has been a member of VSU’s faculty since 1992 and has served as the principal cellist of the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra.

  Holton is a music assistant at VSU and received her degree in piano performance from the college. She is also in charge of scheduling all events for the VSU music program.

Palmer holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s of Music degree from VSU in piano performance. She is currently on the staff at the Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts at Pebblebrook High School, serving as assistant choral director, accompanist, and instructor of music theory.

            The First Tuesday Concert Series takes place on five selected first Tuesdays during the academic year.  Dr. Susan Roe, associate professor of voice at ABAC, directs the series. For more information, contact Roe at (229) 391-4943.
