ABAC Police Personnel

Personnel

The ABAC Police Department is staffed by police officers who graduate from an approved police training program, usually right here on the ABAC campus. In this academy, officers are trained over a ten week period in the use of force, firearms, and other weapons. Other topics include report writing, interpersonal skills, and techniques of arrest and investigation. The training does not end with the academy. Officers are required to receive at least three full days of training each year. Most will get more than the minimum training required, and some are seeking college degrees at ABAC. The training is received from the academy and other departments and from the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth.

ABAC Police Officers patrol the campus using vehicle patrol and foot patrol. The officers are armed and wear an easily recognized uniform. Vehicles used for patrol are marked. ABAC Police personnel are on duty 24 hours a day throughout the year. The mission of the ABAC Police Department is "to protect the students, faculty, staff, and visitors, their property, and the property of ABAC." On-duty personnel respond to calls for service. This response includes, but is not limited to, gathering information, conducting investigations, making arrests, serving search warrants, notifying other law enforcement agencies, and assisting victims in obtaining warrants. The Department maintains a good working relationship with the Tifton Police Department, the Tift County Sheriff's Department, Solicitor, District Attorney, and Judicial Officials
